April 27th Carrie Elkin & Danny Schmidt

Or as Raina Rose called them, "The future Mr. & Mrs. Schmelkin" will grace the Bluff View House concert series on Saturday April 27th... and we're excited.  This Austin Texas couple are both individual Red House recording artists, and we get to see both of them TOGETHER with their unique talents and voices blending.  I did have someone contact me to find out if he could get reservations and he's planning to drive two hours to see them; he had hosted them before but couldn't this time.

Danny has over 7 cds recorded and they are rich in stories beautifully penned in a rural Texan style.  Stories about bank robbers, Grandpa, life on the road, and unique perspective on friends & God; here's a sampling of quotes from his website:

"The most brilliant young songwriter I've heard in the past 25 years. His songs are thrillingly poetic."
- Rich Warren, The Midnight Special
"In his use of parable and allegory, there are inevitable comparisons with Cohen and Dylan, but these are songs of such quality and beauty that they more than hold their own in this exalted company."
5 stars out of 5, Maverick Magazine UK
"With seductive simplicity, his music demands your attention."
Texas Monthly
"In today's underground folk world, Danny Schmidt is spoken of in reverent tones, drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, with a poetry that breathes naturally and without pretension, with results that are both attractive and intense."
Austin Chronicle
"Schmidt is a stellar poet and musician, and media comparisons to a string of legends are not amiss. He's too original and too good for a mere cult following."
- Dirty Linen Magazine

Carrie I met at the Great River Folk Fest, and immediately started planning to host her for a house concert.  I'm always on a lookout for the artist who is throughly enjoying themselves with a people warmth that  works in a house concert.  You could see how she how she taught us paltry singers how to sing and exercise those lungs and vocal chords.  No wonder such a tremendous voice comes out of a little package.  Here's what others have to say about Carrie.

TX MUSIC MAGAZINE:  Named one of Texas Music Magazine's artist's of the year

"an earthy combination of strength and compassion . . . reminiscent of the winsome beauty created by a young Nanci Griffith”
Austin Chronicle

"Carrie is a fantastically warm singer...a master of conveying the message and emotions of her characters"
Fish Records, UK

"the sense of vivid connection to Carrie's experience and to her vision of the world epitomises why I listen to singer-songwriters like her"
Flyin' Shoes, UK

Now that you are convinced; reserve a spot in the house concert.  Or print out a poster and mention it to a friend.  You can call me (number on poster) or email me at dave@theroseriverband.com, or finally add yourself to the event on Facebook... you would hate to hear it's full and you wanted to come.
